The bad:
- The boots I like in the colour I hate are down to $39 while the colours I do want stubbornly refuse to drop. OMG seriously Aldo? They've been around since JULY. Just let me buy them already!!!
- I'm so sleep deprived. I know it's stupid, but I just can't get used to sleeping without Paddy in my bed. Over the holidays I stayed up late enough that I generally dropped off to sleep without much trouble, but I can't keep doing that during the school year. Sigh.
- I'm sick of being COLD all the time. Unfortunately I'm looking at another two or three months of wintery temperatures. Lame!
- My parents saying things like, Emily, dont' you think you have enough boots? I have two pairs of (well-loved) rainboots, and a pair of purple suede boots that I got when I was fifteen and stupid. I think after four years, it's not unreasonable to want more practically coloured boots.
The good:
- I was in the Body Shop today, and I found out that they still had a little bit of the discontinued lip butter flavour that I love!!! It's guarana berry, it smells soooo good.
- I'm newly addicted to Gossip Girl. So embarrassing. But such good, trashy TV! So good for de-stressing!
- Since Paddy died, Charlie (one of my other cats) has taken to sleeping at my feet most nights. It's not the same as having Paddy in my arms, but it is nice.
- I saw Mamma Mia this week, and although it wasn't exactly a cinematic wonder, it did make me like ABBA again.
- OOH big news, I switched my presumptive major (haven't formally declared yet) from Classics to Religious Studies. My religious studies classes are SO interesting.
- Superdickery! Hahahaha, it's a website devoted to what an asshole Superman can be. I can't remember who linked me to it originally, maybe lostdwarf? But the one I just linked is my favourite one.
Have a good week everyone!
We had Paddy put down this morning. He deteriorated so much over the past little bit, it just wouldn't have been fair to keep him alive any longer. He had barely been eating, and when they weighed him, it turned out he'd lost an entire pound. He weighed just over three pounds at his heaviest, so he really didn't have the weight to lose.
I wanted to do a Friday Thirteen post about things I would miss about him, but I just don't think I can. I loved him so much. I'm going to miss him snuffling in my ears while I try to go to sleep.
The Good
- We got over a foot of snow on Friday night, and I'm not sick of it yet. Early snow and Christmas snow are the best kinds.
- Paddy's perked up a bit.
- I got to talk to my BFF today for the first time in nearly two months! YAY.
- Clean laundry.
- New journal soooooon!
- Tights. I love winter if for no other reason than I get to wear TIGHTS! I'm on the lookout for brightly coloured ones now. American Apparel has nice ones, but they are definitely overpriced.
- I have an A+ in Arabic at the moment. AN A+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Those damn boots of mine finally went on sale.......in brown and taupe, not black. Gah!!! So annoying. I wanted them to wear to work for the holiday season.
- Exams. My first one is on Thursday, but then my next one isn't till Dec. 8, so it's not all bad. And one of them is take-home, so my load is pretty light this term.
- It snowed on FRIDAY, and our street still has only one lane plowed. Look, I know it's a double dead end, but people live here too, municipal government.
- Being the bigger person sucks sometimes.
- My inability to make eye contact is starting to irritate me.
Hmm. I was pretty boring today.
:)
- SNOW! It snowed today. It didn't stick, and was more like sleet/slush, but it looked so pretty falling. Sure, in a few months I'll be sick of it (in Nova Scotia, we have snow from October/November to May), but right now, I like it.
- I got a beautiful winter coat. It cost more than I would have liked, but it's SO beautiful. I posted a picture below.
- Paddy is getting his energy back, bit by bit. He's acting more like a kitten and less like an old cat.
- I'm doing weirdly well in Arabic again. I got a 95 on my last test. I think it's going to be my highest mark this term, which is... surprising.
- We're decorating for the holidays at work tonight! Yayyy.
- Last week was my Hell Week (two essays, a term paper, a million pages of reading, an outline and a test), but now it's OVER.
- OBAMA IS THE PRESIDENT. I'm a big Obama fan, and I'm Canadian, so it doesn't even matter.
- Exams start pretty soon. My first one is a week from Thursday. Eeeeeeeek!
- I'm still not getting enough sleep. I hate being tired.
- My sister is making decisions I think are dumb. I know she has to make her own mistakes and everything, but I still worry about her.
- One of my friends is being a drama queen.
Please vaccinate your cats. Paddy's second test was positive, so it's official, my kitten is dying. Just thinking about it makes me cry. We have no way of knowing how he contracted it, but it's most likely that it was either transmitted before he was born or when he was a stray.
The maximum expected survival time after contraction is two to three years. But he's already starting to show symptoms of deterioration. The vet said he might show signs in his sixth or seventh month, and he's only four months old.
He's just so little and cute, and he seemed so healthy, you know? He sleeps curled up in my arms every night, and he's sitting on my lap right now trying to figure out why I'm in tears. There's going to be such a hole in my life when he's gone.
So please, please vaccinate your cats. This didn't have to happen, and I wish it wouldn't happen to anyone else.
Thirteen things I have been meaning to post on Vox, but haven't because it's MIDTERM SEASON!
- My little kitten had her first vet trip last week, and it turns out that she is a he. So his name is Paddy now. And he has feline leukemia. We'll know in three weeks if it'll be permanent, but if it is, his life span will be shortened, and he'll have to stay indoors. Fingers crossed for a good outcome!
- Midterms, midterms, midterms. I love university, I do. But I've just had the week from hell (a midterm, two tests-worth half a midterm a piece-, an essay and an assignment), so I'm not feeling too kindly towards it at the moment.
- I voted!!!! This was my first election, and even though our lego-haired PM got himself reelected (WTF? grrrrrr), at least I participated! Which is more than can be said for the other 41% of eligible voters who didn't vote. I've decided that if anyone tries to talk to me about politics, I'm going to ask them if they voted, and if they didn't, I'm not talking about it. You don't vote, you don't get to complain.
- My Arabic is coming along swimmingly! We learned the last four letters of the alphabet today, and I'm getting better at speaking. I practiced writing a lot, so my writing's gotten really good. We've started on grammar, though, which is freaking killing me.
- My BFF has moved to Ireland to the year. I miss her! :(
- I've become addicted to tea (settles my stomach, which gets upset from all the stress). I like it milky.
- I've been bribing myself to study with How I Met Your Mother on DVD. Study for a while, get a break. It's so funny. It's just as funny as it was the first time around.
- I am a very antisocial person by nature. Other than my very best friend, if I don't see my friends for long stretches of time, it's no big deal. But this week I actually made an effort to see my friends and it was really nice! I mostly hang out with boys (I think I relate to them better... plus, less drama), and I missed them.
- I've sort of been making an effort to get involved with things on campus a little bit too. I started going to a faith study through CCO (Catholic Christian Outreach), even though I'm not sure how I feel about Christianity right now. It's nice to have a place to toss ideas around. And I joined the Saint Andrew's Mission Society. They do volunteer work, and despite the name, it's really not religious.
- I watched Iron Man with one of my friends, and I didn't like it at all! But I seem to be the only one.
- There are so many war movies in the box office this fall. I want to see all of them. I love history.
- Those damn boots of mine still haven't gone on sale yet!
- I started my Christmas shopping!!!! Not only my own, but my dad's too! (I stuff Mom's stocking for him.) I bought the kid I babysit a t-shirt from my university. Propaganda ftw.
- I got off the bus yesterday, and walked past some boys who were probably 16 or so. I think they were getting high, it sure smelled like it, anyway. One of them shouted, "Hey, how are you?" And then got really offended and called me an ice queen when I ignored him. But I don't talk to strangers who shout at me. Why is that unreasonable? Grrr.
There is one week in November where I have nothing due (!!!), but other than that, it's just midterm after test after assignment after exam after essay till December, so I won't be around much. I do my best to keep up with you guys, though, I promise! 'Antum jamiil! (That should mean "you are beautiful". I think.)
